Struck by the flu

March 3rd, 2011 / 3 Comments

Everyone is getting sick, and now it’s my turn.

It came on me suddenly with a sore throat, runny nose, and body aches.

I try to avoid medicines as much as possible. Do you have any home remedies that you recommend?

Here are a few I’m doing:

– Drink warm/hot water rather than cold. It soothes the inflammation around my throat and nasal passages.

– Rather than blowing your nose into a tissue, blow into your hand directly over the sink and wash immediately with running water . It’s more environmentally sound, and prevents harsh rubbing of the nose with tissues.

– Put your face over a pot of steaming water and inhale the steam. It will clear up congestion ease the tightness in the head.

– Take a hot shower. A small luxury…ahhhh, it feels so good!

– Make your own salt water rinse to clean your nose. No need to buy saline nose sprays or Neti pot. Just use a syringe.

– Put a hot washcloth over your eyes and nose. Even just a 30 second rest helps to alleviate the pressure.

– Use extra pillows to help you breath easier at night.

Please give me more suggestions!

  1. Drinking green tea has helped me in the past when I had flu. Hope you feel better.

  2. hi! you could also try salinase that can be easily bought to any drug store and that won’t harm you, a 3-4 drops will also relieve you.

  3. Thanks! I still have some congestion, green tea does help. I am using a sinus rinse.
