Laugh together

September 15th, 2007

Are relationships a little strained in your home?

Has everyone been stressed lately, pressured with work, school, and chores?

What you need is to get de-stress with a good laugh.

This will be a fun activity to do with your children today, on this Day 15 of our 30 Days to Better Parenting Challenge.

laugh

Go to the bookstore or the library and pick up a couple of joke books. Have fun reading some as you eat dessert or just relaxing in the family room – with the TV off! Corny jokes are the best! When my family start to tell jokes, we end up making up some jokes of our own. The more nonsense they are the funnier!

I was reminded to not take life so seriously when my sister-in-law told me of an incident when she dropped a pan of yams at the Christmas party. The food splattered all over the floor. Oh no! All that clean up, in front of all the guests at the party. How angry she must be.

I was shocked when my sister-in-law said everyone started laughing! It was just comical at the moment though it seemed like there was nothing funny about the situation. But the party lightened up after that, no one missed the yams, and everyone had a great time.

In the midst of difficult circumstances, we’ve got to maintain a sense of humor. When we don’t feel like laughing, we’ve got to find something to lighten our hearts.

When you are going through a tough day, read some jokes. Laugh out loud.

Life is too short to take too seriously. Our many worries and concerns can overtake us. This activity is meant to take us a step back, enjoy the fun side of life once in a while. Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine.

  1. I once dropped an uncooked pumpkin pie on the floor the day before Thanksgiving… We all laughed about it, and I haven’t heard about too many times!! 🙂 And no, the pie wasn’t ruined either!!
