Play

August 13th, 2007

Didn’t you use to play pretend when you were young?

My bed used to be a deserted island, and I had to jump on pillow “rocks” to gather “food” without touching the hot lava floor.

What was your favorite scenario that stirred your imagination?

One of the benefits of having children is to be able to experience that excitement of imagination again.

Take time to play pretend with your children and you will find out what is on their mind. Let them lead you into their world of make-believe. It’s a great way to spend quality time with your children.

I admit, it is not easy to play. You might think you have better things to do instead of playing.

Begin by adjusting your mindset. What can be more important than spending time with your children while they are still young to want to spend time with you? What can be better getting on your hands and knees, and pulling out the creative side of you again?

Let go of thinking you are too old. Once you get into the game, you will once again be able to slay dragons in the dark woods of the closet or hide from monsters behind the couch.

We are never too old to play!
