The holiday [not]rush

Can you imagine not being busy for the holidays? It’s almost sacrilegious.
But this year, I am determined to take it easy.
1. Easy gifts. I am giving everyone Kiva gift cards. It’s good for me and good for the world.
2. Easy decorations. Hang up strands of of lights, everywhere, indoor and out. Lights always give a festive feel. And a real Christmas tree with the authentic pine smell. No knickknacks.
3. Easy goodies for teachers and acquaintances. Microwave peanut brittle from scratch are impressive, delicious, and only take 10 minutes to make. (Comment with your email if you want the recipe.)
4. Easy Christmas tradition. Read The Tale of the Three Trees. It’s a beautiful folktale that shares the Christmas story.
5. Easy Christmas card. From my computer picture file, I pick out 5-6 pictures of our family taken throughout the year, paste it on a document, add a few captions. No long prose about how many inches each one grew, lengthwise or widthwise. No boring descriptions of the vacation we didn’t take. No laments about the economy.

Nice post. I am trying to simplify Christmas too. I trimmed my Christmas budget by about $300. I’m buying for fewer people and getting all practical gifts such as consumables, gas cards & money. I planned my shopping trips to be as minimal & close to home as possible & I’m already about half done shopping. I’m only sending Christmas cards to the most special people in our lives who we won’t see for the holidays.
Grace: Great practical ideas. I wouldn’t mind a gift card to Vons, our local supermarket.
TickleMe Plant
I simply throw in a packet of TickleMe Plant seeds with each Holiday greeting Card I mail out. Most people are very surprised they can grow a plant that moves when you tickle it from seeds. The leave rapidly close and even the branches MOVE when tickled. I got the birthday party special so the seed packets were very inexpensive and its the same price as mailing the card itself!
