Try something new

September 24th, 2007

Today’s task on Day 23 of our 30 Days to Better Parenting Challenge may truly be a challenge for some of us.

If you are like me, my default mode of operation is to gravitate to the familiar. The menu for meals include meatloaf, pot roast, enchiladas, or stir fry. Those are my favorites, and I make them over and over again. I am not not creative, and don’t have the time and energy to try to be imaginative with my meals.

So let’s surprise our family today with something different.

My challenge today is to find a new recipe and make a dessert that I’ve never tried before. I know it will take an extra effort. But isn’t giving my family a little treat worth an extra effort?

If it flops, we will all have a good laugh. If it turns out to be gourmet quality, I will take lots of pictures! Either way, it is a good idea to do something extraordinary for our family once in a while. It expresses something of our love for them. And perhaps they will delight in a change on their taste buds.

I am going to try this recipe. Let me know what you will be making.

Peach Clafouties Dessert

1 can of peach halves cut in half and ,drained ( about a 29 oz. can )
1/4 cup sugar divided
1/4 cup peach brandy
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
2 large eggs
1/4 cup flour
dash salt
1 1/2 cup milk or half and half
1 tsp vanilla

Arrange peaches cut side down in a greased 8 x 12 baking pan. Sprinkle with 2
Tbsp. sugar and the brandy. Dot with the butter. Beat eggs with remaining sugar,
flour, salt and vanilla to make a batter. Pour evenly over the peaches. Bake
uncovered in a preheated 350F oven about 30 to 35 minutes or until puffed and
browned. Serve warm, right from the dish. A scoop of ice cream or whipped cream
is a nice accompaniment. Serves about 8.
