Bite-size resolutions

January 6th, 2009 / 5 Comments

The problem with New Year resolutions is that the year is too long. We lose steam after the initial enthusiasm to go the 12-month distance.

However, making New Year resolutions is a good thing. New and renewed commitments keep us from  merely drifting with the tide.

So I suggest making bite-sized MONTHLY resolutions. Make one resolve a month. After one month, you can move on to the next goal. That’ll keep you on your toes and there is less chance of failure.

Here are some suggestions to get you started for 6 months:

January – eat vegetarian meals twice a week

February – give an encouraging word to each family member every day

March – limit one hour of TV a day

April – have a good laugh every day

May – read with my children every day

June – take a walk with the family after dinner 3 times a week

You get the idea.

While many of us cannot keep a resolution for a whole year, I think one month at a time is a reachable goal.

What monthly resolutions are you going to make?

  3. That’s a really good idea actually, this year I completely skipped the resolution, my baby is due in february and I wasnt sure my mind would be on a resolution but this is a good plan with a likely success. Thanks! Cheers :]
