Doing our part in alleviating poverty
November 11th, 2008
My recent participating in Blog Action Day made me realize that if we all do a little, we can accomplish a lot.
Poverty can be an overwhelming issue, but if we each do a little, we can indeed make a difference. One way to do so is to participate with The League.
And it’s a great way to start off the holiday season.
The League is currently holding a Community Drive, simply called The Drive, through November 26th.
For The Drive students create and implement a plan to address issues related to poverty, hunger and homelessness in their community by conducting a collection drive to provide needed goods to a chosen recipient organization in their community. A food drive is suggested, but toys, clothes, or other items may be determined to be more appropriate and selected by the class or school.
By joining The League in the effort to alleviate poverty and hunger, teachers and parents are provided with teaching tools such as curriculum and resources. Students can also track their progress and “compete” with other schools to see how much value they are giving to their community.
Check out the details over at The League. This will put us in the right attitude of giving as we approach the holiday season.
