Breastfeeding or bottle?

May 19th, 2010 / 4 Comments

Are you ready for Hot Button Issue #7?

(Read the first 6 hot button parenting issues – #1 co-sleeping, #2 homeschooling, #3 spanking, #4 childhood immunizations, #5 medicating children , #6 the cry it out method)

The debate over breast versus bottle flares up during almost every parenting or breastfeeding debate. It’s not uncommon for nursing mothers to receive negative comments from their relatives, friends, or even complete strangers about how they feed their baby.” (from wptv.com)

I breastfed all my kids, so that tells you where I stand on this issue. I’ve never been criticized for breastfeeding. In fact, I’ve often been looked on as some kind of martyr. “Oh, you’re so brave. I could never do that.”

There is some sacrifice in breastfeeding. You basically have to feed the baby yourself all the time, anytime. Or if you pump, you have to plan in advance. So there is some extra work involved. But I figured, that’s what I’m here for, isn’t it? I wanted the baby, and I want to take care of my baby, so that’s what I do.

And actually, it turns out there are many benefits. You lose the baby weight faster; you have an excuse to eat more; you save money on formula; the milk is always the right temperature. Most important of all, the bonding with your baby is joyous! I loved breastfeeding.

I understand breastfeeding is not for everyone. Some of my mom friends didn’t enjoy it. It was all sort of a weird feeling for them. A friend of mine is a lactation consultant and has helped many women adjust to breastfeeding. Sometimes a little expert advice can help with that initial period.

With the nutritional benefits of breast milk, I say at least give it a try.

Which side are you on, breastfeed or bottle?

  2. No matter how good formula is, it never is as good as breats milk in nutrition and also in building up the immune system.

Breast milk has always the perfect nutrition and is never the same. It adpats to the babys need, if it is born to early…the milk is different to the breast milk of a mother with a child born on term.

The breats milk contains antibodies which defend the child against diseases.
If the mother catches a cold and builds up antibodies, the child gets them through the breast milk.

If the mother is not really ill like infected with salmonella, you have never to fear that breast milk may carry germs like what can happen easily with formula.

You do not have to get up at night and make bottle, just grab the baby and let it suckle.

It is also good for the teeth, gum and bones because unlike formula there are good bacterias and no sticky sugar or starches which will stay in the mouth.
The nipple has the perfect form to let the teeth grow in the right way.

A bottle lets the kid suckle down too much air, drink too fast or too hard and a pacifier may let the teeths grow wrong.

Humans are mammaels, made for breastfeeding their offspring so why grab some inferior thing if you can get the best?

Surely kids also grow fine with formula, but who knows if the kid may have grown better with breast milk ?

Mothers are brainwashed by television about how a formula may be better then the one before and paint an illousion to be better than breast milk or as good as it.

But how? Million packages of formula all the same for million of different children, how can this be better than milk given from a human mother?

  3. Thanks for those great reasons to choose breastfeeding!

  4. Breast feeding is undoubtedly the best for your baby, but what if it simply doesn’t work? My wife had a terrible time, and was feeling bad about herself and of course our daughter could sense this. Once we made the switch to a bottle everything changed for the better
