Adventures In Parenting anniversary

November 29th, 2008 / 7 Comments

A year ago November around this time, I officially launched this website Adventures In Parenting.

I didn’t quite know what I was getting into when I first started. I didn’t know how to promote the site, I didn’t know how to SEO and all that.

Yet somehow, you found me. I am so glad you did.

I want to thank each of you readers, a big e-hug to you, for you connecting with me in sharing our adventures in parenting.

My first post was written in June 2007. As I reread it now, 230+ posts later, what I said in that first post still applies to me today.

I’ve recorded 10 podcasts since last year. Now that I’ve gotten the hang of it, I hope to average more than one a month this coming year.

As I approach this one year anniversary of this website, a friend asked me, “What keeps you going with this site?”

My first thought was, I don’t want it to be one of the 200 million abandoned blogs in cyberspace. The average lifespan of a blog is 126 days.

But more than just not wanting to be a statistic, what keeps me going are my children.

1. I want to prove my son right. He inspired me to start a website. “You can do it, mom,” he said. Yes, I can, son. Your mom is not a quitter.

2. I want my children to read this one day, and value family and children as I have.

3. I want to continue to learn how to be a better parent to my children. This website forces me to be accountable; I don’t want to have to tell too many failure stories.

I also don’t want to disappoint my website designer David. He did such a tremendous job, how can I let this great design go to waste?

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or new to the site, I want to let you know that I’m still committed to Raising Good Kids – kids who grow up with compassion, integrity, and character.

I hope to have the same perseverance as you.

I don’t know about you, but as I write on my blog, I find that we become more aware of who we are, and how we are as parents. It’s definitely a self-discovery tour as well 😉
