Fairy Foals by Suzannah

Fairy Foals

Summer is a great time to catch up on reading, both for yourself and for your children. The libraries and bookstores are nicely air-conditioned, and the seats are comfortable!

What types of books do you like to read?

I just finished reading Fairy Foals with my daughter. In fact, we read it rather slowly because each page of illustration of this book is so beautiful and intriguing.

Fairy Foals stimulates a child’s imagination in both the ideas and the art. Stories of fairies always hold magic for children, but this book is more than a story about fairies. As the author Suzanah explores her garden and discovers tiny horses with wings, she draws exquisite poses of each of these fairy friends she meets. Each one has a unique personality that is described in a catchy poem.

The garden is full of activities and adventures for the fairies. Suzanah captures these in stories and pictures of their fun with bees, dragonflies, and birds. The smallest fairy foal named Little Brown even had a dangerous encounter with a lizard.

This book will pique your child’s imagination and encourage his creative side. If your child is already interested in art like my daughter is, the lovely illustrations of the foals and the garden surroundings will teach your child some drawing techniques.

This is a book you will read several times over again. There is something new to appreciate in the detailed and realistic illustrations each time we read it. It  has the qualities of a coffee table book with its lovely full-page art, as well as a cute story for children to enjoy.

After reading this book, you will begin to look at your garden differently!

  1. How neat – we don’t actually read books together, per se. We all like to read, and the older one and I will read the same book and talk about it, but usually one after the other.

Last year we found time to listen to audio books together – THAT was kinda neat! 🙂

If I had a girl, I’d pick up this book – sounds really cool!

  2. Dette: audio books are great, esp on road trip. Love hearing your ideas.

  3. I was so glad to read this. I’m always looking for new books my daughter would enjoy. She loves reading and it’s hard to keep her in books. She especially likes stories about horses and also the American Girl books.

I would love to hear more recommendations you might have whenever possible. Without reading them myself first, I sometimes wonder about the content of some books now that she’s getting interested in longer chapter books.

  4. i am reading this book and i think it is awsome.
